With in 24 hours three x64 PC's have "atipci.sys" fail on restart . Why?
Hello. Me and two friends experienced more or less the same simultaneous PC failure with the same file being the offending culprit. "atipcie.sys", which is obviously the videocard driver. We use almost no software that’s "exactly" the same. With the notable exception's being. 1: google talk 2: Hamachi. Our hardware is verry similar, there were other computers on the network that were not affected. They were all x86's with various OS's. We were all able to restore with the OS disks without any further incidents. With out quarantining and checking or cleaning the other computers, ours have yet to fail again while connected to the same network. We believe the most likely causes, in order were 1:Hamachi 2:An x64 update 3:A Worm Software: One computer is se7en, the other two are Vista x64. I use IE8, one uses google chrome, and the other Firefox. I use winamp, one uses WMP and the other uses itunes I use Media Player Clasic, one uses WMP, and the other I can't recall. Two of us use AVG, the other supposedly uses norton. Hardware: I have a AMD 7750, one is a Phenom II x4, and the other I’m not exactly sure. (Athlon x2 no L3 cash) I have a HD3870, the other two are HD3850's (might as well all be the same) My motherboard is an A780GM-A, The other two are different Asus boards. One uses RAID, the other two are SATA with IDE's Our RAM is all different brand's, two are DDR2 and one is DDR3.

Do you use the latest AMD/ATI Catalyst driver? http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

SO SORRY about the WAY late reply..... I assumed that MS tech net would e-mail me back if there were any replys to my problem. And I got nothing. Damit why.... (-.-) "Alert me when someone responds to this post." is deffinately checked.......... Any ways... Yeah, we all use the most up-to-date software that we can. Most of us have Windows update on and automatic. We all game intensivly too, so DirectX and our video cards are fully up-to-date aswell. (Note: I have since reinstaled Hamachi and have yet to have this problem again, so I would say we can maybe down grade the order of Hamachi as a likely culprit.)

Also install the AMD motherboard drivers because you use a AMD chipset based: http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloads/Pages/integrated_win7-64.aspx#3"A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/

I may be wrong, but as far as I know catalyst control center has all the chip set drivers either in the package. Or it detects and installs them off the internet. And we do have the latest catalyst control center packages for each of our setups installed. I'M STILL NOT GETTING E-MAIL NOTIFICATION OF NEW REPLY TO THIS POST. (1) THE BOX IS CHECKED (2) IT'S ALLOWED IN MY PREFFERENCES (3) IT'S NOT IN MY SPAM FOLDER. I can't think of any other reason why it wouldn't be working.

The catalyst driver package doesn't include the Motherboard drivers. I can't find a file atipci.sys on my Windows, only the file AtiPcie.sys (AMD PCIE Filter Driver for ATI PCIE chipset)."A programmer is just a tool which converts caffeine into code" CLIP- Stellvertreter http://www.winvistaside.de/
